 Edison Greenways Group

Who We Are

Founded in 1991 with a grant from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, the Edison Greenways Group works with township, county, state, and federal organizations to raise awareness about open space preservation, environmental, and bicycle & pedestrian issues. GroupBanner
Edison Greenways Group (EGG) has played a major role in the preservation of open space in the Edison area. With 3 members of the Board on the Edison Township Open Space Advisory Committee, including the Chairman, EGG's knowledge of the remaining open space parcels, preservation techniques, and funding sources led in 1999 to the creation of an award winning Open Space Report for Edison Township. This has led to the acquisition of, and preservation of over 900 acres of land in Edison.

EGG is also strongly involved in bicycle & pedestrian planning in Middlesex County. Working with county, state, and local officials to see that transportation projects are bicycle & pedestrian friendly.

EGG created and co-sponsors the ECO-TOURS of Edison, trips where residents find out about the natural treasures hidden virtually in their backyards. From the depths of the Dismal Swamp, to the historic resting grounds of Colonial era settlers, from Thomas Edison's Laboratory site, to the waters of the Raritan River. The aim of the ECO-TOURS has been to educate residents on the importance of open space, watersheds, and historic landmarks. (See our Events page for the dates of these tours.) EGG also created and co-sponsors the annual Bicycle Tour of Edison, which highlights historic and environmentally significant areas throughout the community.

Tree plantings, open space and parkland cleanups are additional community projects that members of EGG do to make Edison a better place.
